The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Engineering Services Examination 2027 (ESE-2027) on 16 September 2026 under Examination Notice No. 02/2027-ENGG. Through this examination, approximately 480 Group A and Group B engineering posts will be filled in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication disciplines across various central government departments. Online applications are open from 16 September 2026 to 6 October 2026 (up to 6:00 PM) on the UPSC application portal. ESE, popularly known as IES, is among the most prestigious examinations for engineers in India. The Preliminary examination is scheduled for 31 January 2027.

Eligibility
- Degree in Engineering in the relevant discipline (Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics & Telecommunication) or equivalent
- One Time Registration (OTR) on the UPSC application portal is mandatory before filling the form
- Read the official notification and examination rules carefully before applying; admission at every stage is provisional
Age Limit (as on 01.01.2027)
- Minimum age: 21 years
- Maximum age: 30 years
- Age relaxation applicable for SC / ST / OBC / PwBD as per rules
Selection Process
Preliminary Examination (500 marks), followed by Main Examination (600 marks) and Personality Test / Interview (200 marks), then document verification and medical examination.
